If you started tracking a policy loan after it was already in motion, Add past activity lets you identify the draws that make up its recorded balance. It does not change that balance.
You'll find it from an expanded row on the Loans page, the policy workspace's Loans tab, and the individual loan detail page.
One row per draw
Each row records five facts:
- What it funded — enter free text, select an asset already tracked in Policy Stack, or choose Add tracked asset to create and link one without losing the unfinished draw. The asset link is optional and can be changed later.
- Amount drawn — the original principal borrowed.
- When — the date of the draw.
- Repaid — optional cumulative principal already paid against that draw. Interest is excluded.
- Left to repay — the principal still outstanding for that draw.
Entering Repaid recalculates Left to repay. Entering Left to repay recalculates Repaid. A zero remaining amount marks the draw Repaid.
How totals work
The recorded loan balance is the referee. The grid totals amount drawn, principal repaid, and principal left to repay. If the rows do not yet account for the full recorded balance, the difference remains visible as Unexplained. Nothing silently adjusts the amount owed.
Add past activity saves draw decomposition only. It does not create historical repayment events, guess how a payment split between principal and interest, or reduce the balance again. Record a new go-forward payment with Log repayment, whose impact preview shows total payment, interest, principal reduction, and affected draws before saving.
After saving
Historical draws appear in Loan Activity. Use the row action to edit the original amount, date, linked asset or free-text label, Repaid, or Left to repay. Deleting a historical draw removes that explanation while leaving the recorded loan balance unchanged.
